BIO and ARTIST STATEMENT

Alex Calderwood is a poet and new media artist based in Santa Cruz, CA. A perpetual wanderer who grew up exploring the forests of Montana, his writing style aspires to 'neo-surrealism' drawing on found, deformed, and reperformed phrases with unusual structure. This transcendental and dadaist writing produces textures with traces of multiple meanings, emphasizing recombination, process, and provenance. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational Media, researching language technology, including the fraught implications of autonomous writing on how we construct and understand identity.
