Bio
JUAN VELASCO-MORENO is a Professor in the Department of English at Santa Clara University, where he teaches creative writing and Latinx Literature. His novel, Enamorado, was published in Spain. His bilingual poetry collection, Massacre of the Dreamers, is a frightening, tragic and heartbreaking meditation on the Old West, while his memoir, 1988: NY-LA, chronicles his travels across the United States with poetic and philosophical insight.
His short stories and poetry have been published in multiple venues around the world. Professor Velasco created the NGO Programa Velasco in 2007, whose mission is to promote education and economic empowerment for children and women in El Salvador.
The act of writing for Professor Velasco is deeply connected with the act of sharing healing and social justice around the world. Those connections inform Aliento Amado (Beloved Breath), a collection of poems with a Dharma focus, for which Kirk Glaser has written translations. A trilogy of his books, Noche oscura del Oeste (Dark Night of the West), was published in Spain this year.
