Artist Statement
From creating landscapes of memory and cultural heritage to experimenting with form and language, Sara sees poetry as a transformative tool. Sara's writing practice always starts with curiosity: she makes it her daily challenge to find wonder in ordinary experiences, like a child seeing the world for the first time. Her curiosity has also led her to create poems by finding meaning in the syllables of her last name, fragmenting Spanish to echo diasporic belonging, using legal pleadings as a form, and creating a poetic cootie catcher. Sara hopes readers have an immersive, sensory, dream-like experience with her poetry.
