Artist Statement:
We know beyond what we see. “Seen and Unseen” is a celebration of perception, dream, and the layers of awareness that each of us experience. In this exhibition, Kimberley Bermender explores the boundaries between the ordinary and the extraordinary, visibility and invisibility, asking viewers to dive into a world where disparate images merge into unified visions that challenge the conventional understanding of consciousness and narrative. Her photographic montages offer a glimpse into fragments of the everyday that are reimagined to reveal new meaning.
Each piece in the exhibition reflects an interplay between reality and imagination. Through a mix of montage, abstract and representational photography, the images juxtapose layers of visibility: what is clearly visible, what is overlooked, and what lies beyond the thinking mind. Dreamlike landscapes, surreal portraits and constructed photographic montages urge us to question the stories we tell ourselves about the world.
“Seen and Unseen” invites audiences to engage with the world more playfully, to search for new narratives in their own surroundings, and to reflect on how much of our reality is shaped by how we choose to see.
